Three stacks. One decision. Stop tool-shopping.
You opened CapCut, ElevenLabs, Midjourney, vidIQ, TubeBuddy, Canva. You paid for two free trials. The card got billed. You still have not published.
That is the tool stack trap.
You do not need to compare 14 apps. Pick a tier. Cancel the rest. Ship video one.
Three tiers below. Sequenced by job, not by hype. Pick one and move on.
Three answers. One tier locked.
Budget, niche, weekly cadence. The matcher returns the tier that fits today, not the one that flatters.
Pick all three above to see your tier.
Tier 1 — Recommended (~$30/mo)
The three tiers
| Tier | Monthly cost | Best for | Upgrade trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 0 (Free) | $0 | First 10 uploads. Test format viability. | Channel monetizes (AdSense YPP threshold). |
| Tier 1 (Recommended) | ~$30 | Most active creators. Voice + editing + thumbnails covered. | Production cadence hits 2+ videos per week. |
| Tier 2 (Scale) | ~$100 | Multi-channel operators, sponsorship-tier production. | Outsourcing is the next decision, not tooling. |
Each tier covers the same six jobs: script, voice, editing, footage, thumbnails, scheduling.
The difference is quality per job, not number of tools.
Tier 0 ($0/mo)
Free path. Works. Ships.
- Script: ChatGPT free tier or Google Doc. The outline lives in your head, then the doc.
- Voice: ElevenLabs free (10K characters/month, ~1 video) or laptop mic + Audacity.
- Editing: DaVinci Resolve (free, no watermark, professional-grade) or CapCut free tier.
- Footage: Pexels + Pixabay + Storyblocks free trial.
- Thumbnails: Canva free + Pexels stock + Photopea (free Photoshop alternative).
- Scheduling: YouTube native scheduler. No third-party tool.
Real total: $0/month if you accept the 10K-character ElevenLabs cap.
If you go past 10K chars/month, ElevenLabs Starter ($5/mo) gets you to 30K. That is still under Tier 1.
Tier 0 is enough for the first 10 uploads. Stay here until you know the niche works.
But what happens when ElevenLabs free runs out and DaVinci stops feeling like the bottleneck? That is when Tier 1 starts paying for itself.
Tier 1 ($30/mo, recommended)
Pay for the bottlenecks. Skip the rest.
- Script: ChatGPT Plus ($20/mo) or Claude Pro ($20/mo). One of them, not both.
- Voice: ElevenLabs Creator ($22/mo, 100K characters, voice cloning). Replaces the free tier.
- Editing: Stay on DaVinci Resolve free OR CapCut Pro ($7.99/mo) if you want auto-captions and motion templates.
- Footage: Stay on Pexels + Pixabay. Optional: Storyblocks ($15/mo unlimited stock) if your niche needs specific b-roll.
- Thumbnails: Stay on Canva free. Optional: Canva Pro ($12.99/mo) for brand kit and unlimited stock photos.
- Scheduling: YouTube native. Or vidIQ Boost ($24/mo) when you need keyword research and competitor tracking.
Pick one of the optional add-ons, not all three. Total stays near $30/mo.
Tier 1 is the cadence multiplier. ElevenLabs Creator alone removes the biggest weekly bottleneck (voiceover).
Tier 1 is enough for most channels. Here is when it stops being enough.
Tier 2 ($100/mo)
Scale tier. Most readers do not need this yet.
- Script: Both ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro ($40/mo). Different strengths for hook generation vs long-form structure.
- Voice: ElevenLabs Creator ($22/mo) plus a backup freelancer ($30-$80/video for sponsor reads).
- Editing: CapCut Pro ($19.99/mo) plus Descript ($24/mo) for podcast-style faceless formats.
- Footage: Storyblocks ($15/mo) plus Artgrid trial when premium cinematic stock is needed.
- Thumbnails: Canva Pro ($12.99/mo) plus Midjourney ($10/mo Basic) for niche-specific generated visuals.
- Scheduling: vidIQ Boost ($24/mo) plus TubeBuddy Legend ($23.99/mo) if you need both retention analysis and end-screen automation.
Realistic Tier 2 spend: $90 to $130/month depending on which paid stock library matches your niche.
Tier 2 is for creators publishing 2+ videos per week and seeing real CPM revenue. Below that, you are paying for capacity you do not use.
What this stack plan does not cover
- Hardware. Use the laptop you have. Buy a microphone only when reading your audio shows it matters.
- Hosting. YouTube is the platform. No CDN, no Patreon, no podcast host yet.
- Distribution. Email captures + retargeting come after first 10 uploads.
This is a production stack. Distribution and growth stacks are different lists.
Six questions stack-shoppers ask
Which tools are actually required? Six jobs need coverage: script, voice, editing, footage, thumbnails, scheduling. Anything outside those six is optional. If a tool does not own one of the six jobs, do not pay for it.
Can free tools really work? Yes for the first 10 uploads. DaVinci Resolve is broadcast-grade and free. ElevenLabs free covers one video per month. Pexels covers stock. The free tier ships. It does not scale past weekly cadence.
Will cheap tools look bad? Faceless audiences judge the topic, the script, and the thumbnail. They do not judge the editor. The Tier 0 stack ships videos that have hit 100K views. The bottleneck is the format, not the software.
Do I need an AI video generator? No. Most “AI faceless video” tools combine stock footage, TTS, and basic motion templates you can replicate inside DaVinci or CapCut for free. Pay for the AI generator only if it removes a job from your list, not because it sounds futuristic.
When should I upgrade tiers? Tier 0 to Tier 1 when ElevenLabs free runs out and you want a second video that week. Tier 1 to Tier 2 when you publish 2+ videos per week and a backup voice or premium b-roll would save 3+ hours per video.
What is enough for video one? Tier 0. ChatGPT free, ElevenLabs free, DaVinci, Pexels, Canva free, YouTube native scheduler. That stack ships video one this weekend.

Already at Tier 2?
